Kacie takes 2nd in State
March 31, 2009
After winning first place in the General Science catagory at the ARA science fair, Kacie Williams has gone on to capture 2nd place in the State SCISA Science Fair.
Kacie’s experiment was in the field of Psychology and is based on demonstrating how higher levels of processing helps retain information. She used the ability to recall lists of colored words and numbers to demonstrate this.
Congratulations Kacie, Good Work!

Tax Credit Article
March 25, 2009
Daniel Bates, an ARA Alumni, wrote a new article on Archibald Rutledge Academy:
With poor school performances rampant in Charleston County and the state as a whole, State Senator Robert Ford has finally decided that school tax credits for parents choosing to send their children to private schools could be the only solution to parents wanting the best possible option for their children’s future…. Can You Help Make Our Garden Grow?

Spring is here and the garden is ready to be planted….How can you help?
With Donations…
Seeds, seedlings or cuttings
Fertilizer (manure or shop-bought)
Small hand rakes
Garden canes
With Time….
Help us to weed or plant any time
Help your child germinate seeds to replant in the garden
Come by to water on dry weekends or Spring break
With Compost…
Set aside raw fruit or vegetable waste for our compost heap
With Money….(!)
$5 will buy….5 packets of seeds, or 3 tomato plants, or 2 pots of herbs, or a bag of Miracle Grow – a little really does go a long way!
With your help we can make this year’s harvest the most successful ever!!
In anticipation of your support – Thank You.

ARA SCORE Program
March 20, 2009
Archibald Rutledge Academy’s Marine Biology Class continues its participation with South Carolina Oyster Restoration and Enhancement (SCORE) Program. The program consists of habitat restoration and construction of new reefs with recycled oyster shell. Mrs. Becky Sellers Marine Biology class participated in the original construction of a bed in Jeremy Creek in McClellanville in 2001. Each year her class continues the program through water monitoring and reporting. Students measure and keep track of pH, salinity, temperature, water clarity and dissolved oxygen. This monitoring will help South Carolina understand how to best restore Oyster habitat.

Teachers vs Students Volleyball Game
March 14, 2009
Friday night the Girls Volleyball team challenged the teachers to a match. The teachers seemed to pick up steam as the match went on, but couldn’t overcome the outstanding play of the girls, and fell four games to none. It was a fun night with chicken and sausage pileu cooked by Huger McClellan and Macajiah Williams, always excellent. Thanks to all the volunteers that help out. Here are some pictures. If you have some pictures you want to share for this event or any school event, send them in
