Back to School Bash ’09
August 27, 2009
Enrichment Period
August 21, 2009
Beginning next week we will have an Enrichment Period on Tuesday and Thursday. To ensure we have adequate time for these offerings we will be extending these two days until 2:45pm.
Our new schedule will be:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30am – 2:00pm
Tuesday and Thursday 8:30am — 2:45pm
Below is a listing of the Clubs offered and a brief description. These clubs will run for 9 weeks and then the student will have the option to choose another. Offerings may change or be expanded for the next 9 weeks. Please indicate a first and a second choice for each day and we will do our best to accommodate. If an activity is full, it will be offered again the next 9 weeks.
Lower School Activities
Juniors Explorers Club
Explore the salt marsh and areas around ARA. Hunt for fiddler crabs, wading birds, periwinkle snails and other critters. Listen for kingfishers, red-wing blackbirds and herons – Smell the pluff mud. Get outdoors and enjoy nature!!!
Equestrian Skills
This activity offered to lower school students will be an opportunity for students to enjoy horses and understand their behavior. We will be grooming, handling, and riding the horses as well as learning about general care. The group will be limited to four students per nine weeks to ensure there is enough time for everyone to ride. It will be offered each nine weeks as needed.
Music Club
This will be a fun music club that will go in the direction our various talents may take us.
Lego Club
This will be a fun club where the students will use the basic building blocks to create projects together. In this club we will use the student’s creativity and show the students by working together we can build bigger and better things.
Art
Students will work on art projects weekly. Projects will be age appropriate and will vary according the groups that participate.
Upper School Activities
Newspaper Club
This will be a meeting for older students in which we will create and publish a monthly school newspaper. We will also submit articles to the town newsletter publicizing our events and achievements to the community. We will be active in encouraging all ARA students to enter competitions and letters to publications such as Parent Magazine and The Post and Courier.
Community Service Club
During this activity period we will explore different ways that we can help people within and around the community. We will do large and small projects each nine weeks. The projects will range from collecting food for the hungry and taking meals to the elderly to picking up trash along Pinckney Street. We will also use creativity to come up with new ways that we can make a positive impact on our community. Each hour of service will be recorded and go towards the required community service hours for Upper School Government.
This Club will be offered every nine weeks and the projects will be different each session.
Outdoor Sportsman Club
This club will urge participants to be stewards of our natural resources. Topics to be covered will be camping, boating, hunting, archery skills and more. One goal of the club will be to plan an overnight camping trip toward the end of the nine weeks – time and scheduling permitting.
Guitar
Guitar lessons will be given by Mr. Forrest Morrison. The number of student may be limited.
Music Club
This will be a fun music club that will go in the direction our various talents may take us.
